High quality , bespoke training sessions and consultancy to meet your EAL needs...
Enhancing EAL provision in schools through the use of assessment and differentiation.

Beth Southern is the creator of EAL HUB and is an experienced EAL Consultant and a Specialist Leader of Education (SLE) for EAL. She has a wealth of experience across both primary and secondary, within state sector and private education. Beth was Head of EAL at a large inner-city academy in Manchester for 4 years and more recently was Leading Teacher for EAL at a local council. She has worked with EAL pupils for the last 12 years and has a wide range of experience of working with International Schools around the world. Her training sessions enable teachers and TAs to gain confidence in assessing EAL learners and planning next step support by demonstrating ideas, resources and differentiation which staff can take away and use in school immediately.

We can offer a generic session that covers many of the most popular areas in regards to working with EAL learner or, depending on the needs of the school, the sessions can be adapted to incorporate more specific training on aspects such as:

  • New Arrivals and the first steps to integration (primary and secondary)
  • The importance of understanding vocabulary and how to boost it in your lessons (primary and secondary)
  • Boosting reading and writing in Advanced Bilinguals (primary and some secondary subjects)
  • Use of images and film with EAL Learners (primary and some secondary subjects)
  • Working with parents to develop community cohesion (primary and secondary)
  • Effective intervention methods and strategies (primary and secondary TAs)
  • A session for TAs working with EAL learners (primary and secondary)
  • Developing the role of the EAL coordinator (consultancy based session)
  • Involving EAL learners in whole class texts (primary and secondary English)
  • The use of picture books for developing vocabulary (primary and some secondary subjects)
  • Supporting EAL learners in Maths (secondary maths teachers)
  • Supporting EAL learners in Science  (secondary science teachers)
  • SEN or EAL, differences and similarities

SLE WORK (specialist leader of education):

I love working alongside school to offer bespoke provision to improve how you support your EAL learners. SLE sessions look at your school as a whole and build targets that we can work on together. Most schools have 2 days of training per term.

Minimum of 2 days - £500 per day

There are often discounts available and we are sometimes able to work with a school's budget, if we have availability, so please get in touch to discuss this!

** We offer training on the use of EAL HUB resources, including how to get the most out of PIVOT picture book packs, Reading Hero Packs, the video resources and standalone mats and resources. If you would like to book a comprehensive "How best to use EAL HUB" session, see many of the resources in action, completed activities and sample work then this is available at £150 for a twilight session (plus travel).

As we are keen to better equip trainee teachers for working with EAL students, we offer a limited number of sessions for SCITT/PGCE courses that start at £300 plus travel/accommodation (where required) for a half day (9-12pm and dependent on cohort size)  These do get booked up early, so get in touch if you are planning your trainee teacher calendar for next year! Full day, lecture or multiple day options are also available.

Sessions are available for primary and secondary trainees but it is advisable not to have both phases together.

(Cluster group options can be found below)

Travel outside of North West of England will be chargeable.

Cluster School Options

Prices stated above are for single schools.

For two schools clustering the half day price drops to £400 per school and for three or more schools the cost is £350 per school. For Full days the price drops to £750 per school and for three or more schools it is £650 per school.

Want to make your CPD free?! Some schools prefer to sell out additional delegate places in order to offset costs and involve cluster school staff.  We ask that schools charge no more than £70 per place.   EAL Hub Ltd charges £35 per additional place and the school retains £35.
