High quality books are an excellent way for children to develop their knowledge and understanding of the world, as well as their vocabulary and writer’s craft. However EAL learners, or those with lower levels of literacy will likely need some scaffolding to make most books accessible. Many of our resources revolve around high quality picture and chapter books and they are perfect as interventions, scaffolding within class or as a whole class resource.

Reading Hero Packs are comprehensive resources that scaffold the text beautifully. Each one contains a wide range of resources including chapter summaries, word and picture glossaries, character booklets, dictionary creator sheets, chapter overview sheets, comprehension questions for each chapter and activities to support the student as they read the book, They are great for use in small groups or alongside a whole class text. They will benefit EAL learners and learners with low levels of literacy.

Picture books act as a ready made scaffolded resource and combine high quality images and words relevant to different school topics and themes. These resources can be used in small groups or as a whole class vocabulary focus. They can be used over a number of sessions.
