Inside a good book

The picture hub contains a wealth of stunning images to help bridge experience gaps, develop vocabulary and promote writing. Each image can be downloaded and used however you want, or you can choose to use our PAVER activity to build a lesson or intervention for learners.

Images are the gateway to experience, development of language, ideas and wonder. At Inclusion Hub we are inspired by amazing images every day, they help us to understand the world, consider the impossible, view things we have never seen before. We have created a way of using images that children can be taught, this allows them to then think strategically about an image when they are presented with one.
We like to think an image PAVES the way to greater things, whether that is conversation, developing ideas or the start of some amazing writing.

  • P - Prediction  (a valuable skill that learners can develop - ask them to predict what might happen next in the image)
  • A - Analyse - (analysis is always a key skill and by asking students to analyse this photo, they are thinking about it at a deeper level. What can they see, what do they know for sure, what can they work  out by talking about it further?)
  • V - Vocabulary (pick out at least 10 words about this image - things you can see, topic words, ideas about the image, emotional response words)
  • E - Expand - (sort the above words in to categories and add more - word webs work well here!)
  • S - Sentence work - (use everything you have done so far to now pull together sentences about the image, these can involve prediction, vocabulary, emotional response and any other target language)
